About Sustaera
Sustaera is a North Carolina-based startup specializing in Direct Air Capture(DAC) Technology designed to remove and reuse atmospheric carbon dioxide for a more sustainable future. Their innovative approach utilizes renewable energy to extract carbon dioxide from the air, leveraging existing manufacturing supply chains at low cost.
As they prepared for a new funding opportunity, Sustaera aimed to finance the accelerated development of an improved next generation structured sorbent, requiring key adjustments and optimization from the first generation.
To strengthen their funding proposal, they sought material specialist consultants who could provide expert guidance on sorbent binding mechanisms with novel, low-thermal mass materials to enhance the structured sorbent materials energy efficiency and capture performance.
The Process
After an in-depth conversation with Cory to understand exactly what he was looking for, I was able to pinpoint the skill set and experience required to tackle the challenge at hand.
This search presented unique challenges, particularly due to the niche expertise in sorbent binding mechanisms and low-thermal mass materials they needed.
Adding to the complexity, these were consultant roles, significantly narrowing the talent pool as full-time professionals wouldn’t be a fit.
After the first round of interviews didn’t quite hit the mark, I refined my search further, honing in on candidates with a problem-solving mindset that Cory was looking for. This led to a new batch of highly qualified candidates.
Ultimately, Cory hired two specialists whose skill sets complemented each other, filling the critical gaps in his team.
