Renewable Energy

Modernising our energy infrastructure

To realise an affordable, clean energy future, the world needs to double down on renewables and steer away from harmful fossil fuels. With this unprecedented interest in renewable energy, the sector is set to generate 10.3 million new jobs globally by 2030, offsetting 2.7 million jobs expected to be lost in fossil fuel sectors.

Green energy’s success depends on a diverse, flexible, and skilled workforce, but many companies in this sector are struggling to source green talent. At Gibson Watts, we are proud to be helping leaders in this industry mobilise a green skills workforce to accelerate the energy transition.

What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is clean, sustainable energy that's derived from naturally regenerating sources such as solar and wind. It is an industry that is booming, as innovation is drastically cutting costs to help deliver the promise of a clean energy future.

Natural resources have the potential to create far more energy than the world currently requires. And with climate change initiatives and increased funding, renewables could provide 65% of the world's total electricity supply by 2030 and decarbonise 90% of the power sector by 2050.

The science is clear: To avoid the worst impacts of climate change, emissions must be reduced by almost half by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. And to achieve this, we need a diverse and flexible mix of energy solutions.

Onshore Wind

Representing one of the most cost-effective and efficient renewable energy technologies, onshore wind is a clean, safe, and reliable way of generating electricity that, once all infrastructure is put in place, produces no greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to providing affordable, clean and zero-carbon electricity, the increase in wind capacity will bring tremendous socioeconomic benefits, with the wind industry expected to generate 3.3 million new jobs by 2025.

Solar Energy

Both the fastest-growing and most abundant energy source on Earth, solar energy is a reliable, sustainable, and effective way to generate power.

Solar power has been outlined as a key player in the global shift to carbon neutrality. In Europe alone, solar power soared by almost 50% in 2022. With the sector forecasted to undergo even more growth throughout the next decade, solar power will undoubtedly be a key factor in achieving a zero-emissions future.

Offshore Wind

To mitigate climate change, many countries around the globe are investing in offshore wind to restructure their power generation mix. Different from their onshore counterparts, offshore wind turbines are installed in bodies of water, typically in the ocean, where wind power is far greater, more stable, and constant.

Offshore wind farming has particularly flourished in the US, driven by its success in Europe, with up to 77,000 local, highly skilled jobs expected to be created in the next few years.

Energy Storage

Although renewable energy can provide global long-term energy security, its full potential is limited by the intermittency of sources such as wind and sunshine. To overcome this challenge, energy storage plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between energy supply and demand by storing energy for when it's needed most.

We understand the crucial role that a dynamic workforce plays in enabling a transition to a more sustainable and secure energy future. We have a proud history of placing top talent for leading and emerging energy storage organisations, including a market leader for long-term duration energy storage (LDES).
