Introduction to our Executive Search Associate – Chloe Maloney

As we enter the final quarter of 2022, we look back fondly on a fantastic year of growth for Gibson Watts. We have built relationships with some of the most ambitious organisations within the clean-tech and sustainability sectors, and have reacted to this success by continuously expanding our team with high-calibre individuals.

One of our latest new recruits is Chloe Maloney. Chloe is experienced in executive search and is passionate about the industries that we work in. She joined us back in August and has been an integral part of the Executive Search team since then.

To introduce Chloe properly, we invited her to take part in one of our Q&A sessions to find more about her and what she does at Gibson Watts.

What is your role at Gibson Watts?

I am an Executive Search Associate, which means that I work on all sorts of projects across Search. Since joining Gibson Watts, I have worked on a ‘Market Sector Lead’ role for a major client, I am also soon to be working on an ‘Aftermarket Service Director’ role. Alongside this, I am also leading a search for a ‘Product Manager/Director’ for another major client.

Most of the organisations that we are working with are worth over £1bn in revenue, typically classed as large enterprises. I have historically worked in insurance for some of the largest global companies, placing division heads, chief underwriting officers, non-exec directors, CPO’s and Heads of TA/HR and a whole host of other c-suite/c-suite minus one positions.

Effectively, I am a number two on the full lifecycle search process. I identify, source, interview, and place experienced executive and senior leaders tailored to client’s culture and business needs – I just do it all with Josh’s guidance!

As part of the Gibson Watts team, I focus on the following:

·      Market mapping and candidate identification.

·      Building rapport and long-term market relationships with clients and candidates.

·      Over-the-phone and in-person sourcing of market information.

·      Candidate interview and assessment.

·      Production of proposal letters, candidate biographies, other client documentation and industry reports

·      Create detail-oriented forensic competitor analysis including strategic overviews, benchmarking, bespoke market and/or product intelligence reports

·      Organising, overseeing, and supporting candidate interviews.

·      Actively engaging with C-suite clients, colleges, and market contacts.

·      Researching business development opportunities, performance analysis, pitching new concepts, and executing action plans.

·      Full lifecycle search and candidate management

What is your background?

In 2020, I attended the University of Nottingham, where I achieved a first-class BSc in Zoology. While I was studying at university, I ran the NCS Programme at Notts Count FC Charity Trust, I also worked part time for the NHS (Trent PTS) in the mental health ward.

Following this, I spent a year working for Damhurst, where I worked in Executive Search in the Insurance sector. I took a very different path after this, working at Foot Dairy, where I milked cows for 6 months!

Why did you decide to join Gibson Watts?

I joined Gibson Watts because I wanted to come back to Executive Search. I was keen to work with international clients in the sustainability / clean-tech space, somewhere where the work that I do could have a broader impact. I was attracted to Gibson Watts as it is a forward-thinking, inclusive, and innovative business, which finds itself in a very interesting growth phase.

How important is sustainability to you?

Very. I started the eco-warrior club at my primary school. I believe the responsibility lies with the corporate world more than us as consumers. It is exciting to support that investment and innovation through hiring key talent.

How do you try and be more sustainable?

I am a textiles and fashion lover. I buy most of my clothes second hand, regularly upcycling and selling bits that I find in charity shops. I also ensure that I recycle properly. Alongside this, I am very big on local produce, and I always buy zero-waste from local farmers and markets wherever possible – and regenerative ethical meat and real milk of course!

How would you describe the company culture and environment at Gibson Watts?

I enjoy the grown-up culture most. Most businesses preach it, but it is often rare to feel it – flexibility and trust is a big part of this. I also love that for an executive search business it is not cutthroat, we are all here to support each other – I couldn’t work here if that weren’t true. The team is also so unique and there is so much to learn from everyone as individuals.

What are your hobbies? Outside of work, what is important to you

In my free time, I hang out in fields with cows most of the time! I just bloody love cows and I am a happier healthier version of myself in nature, especially when on a farm. I also do textile bits which I really enjoy, I could sew for hours but I am also slow so need hours to do it!
