Introduction to our Senior Consultant – Charles Battersby

We are pleased to introduce our next team member, Charles Battersby.

Charles is a loyal and hardworking member of our Recruitment team. He has been a part of our company for many years, originally starting as a Consultant with Procorre and now working within Gibson Watts.

With over 20 years of experience in management consultancy and recruitment under his belt, Charles is a key contributor to finding the brightest talents globally within the clean-tech sector.

Let’s take a few moments to get to know him and his role here at Gibson Watts a little better!

What is your role at Gibson Watts?

I am part of the Recruitment team at Gibson Watts. I help clients in the clean-tech sector to build the teams that will allow them to flourish.

What types of projects have you worked on since joining?

I have worked with a broad range of companies in Europe and the US from start-ups to companies with turnovers in excess of $10 billion.  The types of roles I have worked on have also been pretty broad but senior technical and corporate finance roles take up most of my time. In terms of specific industries, anything green hydrogen-related is of specific interest.

What is your background? (Previous employers, education background, career history)

I am an old-timer who spent many years in recruitment covering areas like construction, IT, and management consulting before I joined Procorre seven and a half years ago. I originally started working with Procorre Consultants before switching back to recruitment a couple of years ago. My degree was in Politics and Economics of the Developing World which I have found to be really useful when recruiting technical roles for electrolyser businesses 😉!

Why did you decide to join Gibson Watts?

It was clear that there were many fantastic opportunities arising as the green hydrogen industry developed. It’s always nice to know you are helping businesses that are working towards decarbonisation too!

How important is sustainability to you?

As important as it should be to everyone. At the risk of trotting out an old cliché, it is up to us to leave a better planet for our children and for future generations. With two children in their early 20s, I am acutely aware of the future they may be facing.

How do you try and be more sustainable?

All of the obvious areas really: recycling, reducing single-use plastic waste when possible, owning a small car, walking to and from work, carbon offset when I fly, energy-efficient house – the list goes on!

How would you describe the company culture and environment at Gibson Watts? What do you enjoy about working for Gibson Watts?

The company culture at Gibson Watts is incredibly friendly and team-oriented with a distinct lack of the clichéd ‘pushy’ characters that recruitment has historically attracted. A win for one is a win for all. Whilst relaxed, everyone is very professional about their approach to work. There’s a good mix of office-based work (which is important) and WFH.

What are your hobbies? Outside of work, what is important to you?

I enjoy following most sports and support AFC Wimbledon, but my biggest interest is rugby, whether live at Bristol or on TV. In the past, I have also managed and coached a local junior rugby team.
